In this small village in Mexico, a real estate broker, a computer programmer a college professor and a retired drummer met; they each came here for different reasons but they shared one thing in common: a passion for music. Their music is based on rowdy harmonies, rollicking guitar work and an undeniable chemistry between the three players. Their 70’s flavored rock and roll features covers of great songs we all grew up with and loved, along with new music originals. Their original music is all about beer, tequila, good food, fun times and the kicked back Mexican lifestyle. It’s also about living life through all the good times and bad. It’s about putting world weary cares behind us. It’s about escape and living … really living before it’s too late.
 Born in New Orleans, raised for a time in Saudi Arabia and parts unknown, David Truly could be a poster child for wanderlust and somewhat confused Baby Boomers. After years as a professional student, Truly turned to music in the late 1970's, and struggled along with other musicians who fought against the onslaught of disco music and synthesizers. The Truly Original Band combined country and bluegrass roots with the harmonies of the Andrews Sisters and the freeform style of the Grateful Dead – yes it was strange.
After years in Nashville, Truly headed to Hilton Head Island South Carolina where he and an of cronies opened the Old Post Office Emporium – an infamous live music venue. Playing with the Bonzo Brothers and then the Truly Dangerous Swamp Band, he found himself eventually drawn back to the road, where the group became popular among southern colleges until the mid 90's when Truly suddenly jumped ship and returned to the land of higher learning.
David wandered off to New England, got married and became a professor … and his guitar just sat in the corner. But all the while he traveled back and forth to Mexico and further south, always intrigued by the Hispanic culture and people. His research led him to pueblos in Mexico where bohemians, adventurers, and misfits had settled over the ages. During his investigation, he slowly found himself becoming one of his own study subjects … and then he picked up the guitar … again.
 A retired cowboy and jack of all trades Flip may be the son of a preacher man but he sure ain't no angel. Always on the prowl for the "next big thing" or something that looks like it, this Kansas native worked in the oilfields, construction, and the restaurant business, while traveling across the US.
After some time in Colorado and Florida, this sod busting rodeo rider traded his chaps for a life in real estate in Mexico. Why Mexico? Well, like any country song will tell you, it was all about a woman ... but he also found life way down south to his liking. He spends his time hawking homes, auctioning off retirees, and slipping down to the coast on a sailboat where he can smoke a fine cigar with a cognac back. Whether it's a horse, a Harley or a 40 ft sloop, the Skipper rides for pleasure.
This self taught musician can play guitar bass and harmonica but it's his "smashes and smushes" style of piano that separate him from the herd. He sings songs about beer, women, beer, women, hummm ... yep, beer and women.
 Joel Barker came to Lake Chapala from Colorado in 1993 to visit relatives and fell in love with the area. He's been back and forth a couple of times since then. As he says, "It took a couple of false starts but this has been my permanent home since 2002."
Like most musicians, Joel also has a "day job." Actually these TallBoys seem to all have careers. Joel was instrumental in developing and enriching the multiple listing service for the local real estate board, CAR (Chapala Associated Realtors). It was the first in Mexico and is still one of the few in the country that functions well. Today that valuable information lives neatly in a smooth computer program which can be accessed on the laptop of each agent or the public at chapalamls.com. It looks as if Joel finessed the system until he put himself into a permanent job. Today he's advanced from "the MLS guy" to Administrator of the CAR MLS.
Joel, another self-taught musician, says, "For me, it's all about fun — mine and the audience's." He is well aware that beer is the substance that seems to always go hand in hand with rock music. A few years ago he began experimenting with small batches of "TallBoy Beer," in unlabeled bottles that he handed folks off the bandstand when they dropped a pittance into the tip bucket. He was having fun at that too, tinkering with another obsession and adjusting recipes and balancing ingredients to produce a variety of subtle flavors of beer. Now it looks as if he's turned another fun hobby into a business as he has just registered the brand name Barker Beer and is talking about going into production of his pale ale and his amber.
 Dale Hetler
Dale Hetler was raised in southwestern Michigan and has played drums since he was 10 years old. Over the years, he performed with artisits such as Ted Nugent and opened for groups like Procol Harum and the Guess Who. Since he was 18, he was the conductor and percussionist for Galen - an extraordinary pianist and keyboardist.
After years of travelling and recording he retired to Mexico after watching a 60 minutes show on a criminal who had left the US and settled in Ajijic. But he missed playing - and so when he met another bunch of criminals named the TallBoys, he said, "Sure I'll play!"

David Truly

Su búsqueda lo llevo a pueblos en México donde bohemios, aventureros e inadaptados se establecieron durante los años.
Durante su investigación y sin dares cuenta se encontró lentamente convirtiéndose en un sujeto de su propio estudio… para luego regresar a su guitarra … otra vez.
Flip Nicholson
Un vaquero retirado señor hombre de muchos oficios, Flip podrá ser el hijo de un predicador pero no es ningún ángel. Siempre en la búsqueda de la “próxima gran oportunidad” o algo parecido , este nativo de Kansas trabajo en los campos de petróleo , construcción y en el negocio restaurantero, mientras viajaba por estados unidos. Despues de algún tipeo en Colorado y Florida, este jinete de rodeo cambio sus pantalones de vaquero por una vida en el mundo de bienes raíces en México. Porque México? Pues, como cualquier canción country te puede decir, todo fue por una mujer… pero también porque encontró un estilo de vida que le encanto. El pasa su tiempo buscando y subastando casas y en sus tiempos libres navegando en un velero por las costas hacia el sur donde pudiera fumarse un buen habano y tomarse un bien coñac. Ya sea un caballo, una Harley o un velero de 40 pies el Capitán lo disfruta. Este músico autodidacta puede tocar la guitarra, el bajo y la armónica, pero es su increíble estilo de piano que lo separa del rebaño. El canta acerca de chelas, mujeres, chelas, mujeres y hmmm ahh si chelas y mujeres.
Joel Barker
Joel Barker llegó al Lago de Chapala de Colorado en 1993 para visitar a sus familiares y se enamoró de la area. Ha sido de ida y vuelta un par de veces desde entonces. Como él dice, "Me tomó un par de salidas en falso, pero esta ha sido mi hogar permanente desde el año 2002."
Como la mayoría de los músicos, Joel también tiene un "trabajo de día." En realidad estos Tallboys parecen tener todas las carreras. Joel fue instrumental en el desarrollo y enriquecer el servicio de listado múltiple de la junta local de bienes raíces, la CAR (Chapala Association of Realtors). Fue la primera en México y sigue siendo uno de los pocos en el país que funciona bien. Hoy que la información vive de forma ordenada en un programa de computadora que se puede acceder en la computadora de cada agente o el público en chapalamls.com.
Joel, otro músico autodidacta, dice: "Para mí, es todo sobre la diversión - la mía y la del público". Él es muy consciente de que la cerveza es la sustancia que parece ir siempre de la mano con la música rock. Hace unos años empezó a experimentar con pequeñas cantidades de "Homebrew" en botellas sin etiqueta que se regalen a la gente frente por una propina. Se estaba divirtiendo en el que también, jugando con las recetas de ajuste y el equilibrio de los ingredientes para producir una variedad de sabores sutiles de la cerveza. Ahora parece como si se ha convertido otra manía de la diversión en un negocio como lo acaba de registrar la marca de Barker Beer está hablando de entrar en la venta de ingridentes de cerveza por homebrewers.
Dale Hetler
Dale Hetler se crió en el suroeste de Michigan, y ha tocado la batería desde que tenía 10 años de edad. Con los años, tocó con artisits como Ted Nugent y abierto a grupos como Procol Harum y The Guess Who. Desde que el tenía 18, él era el director de orquesta y percusionista de Galen - un extraordinario pianista y tecladista. Después de años de viajes y la grabación, se retiró a México después de ver un espectáculo de 60 minutos a un criminal que había salido de los EE.UU. y se estableció en Ajijic. Pero se perdió jugando - y así, cuando se encontró con otro grupo de delincuentes llamado el tallboys, dijo, "seguro que voy a tocar!"
